Huawei P9 price and specification
The Huawei P9 is the next flagship phone from Huawei and it's set to be a very impressive device indeed, with an innovative dual-lens camera, a lot of power, a premium design and a fingerprint scanner, all at a competitive price.
Read on for full details of the phone, including the price and release date, the specs, the features and everything else that you need to know.
Release date and price
The Huawei P9 was announced on April 6th at an event in London and the company has confirmed that it will be arriving in the UK and much of the rest of the world from April 16th, so there's not long to wait.
The phone is set to retail for £449, which is just about a flagship price, but almost £100 cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S7 and roughly £50 cheaper than the LG G5.
Display
The Huawei P9 has a 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 screen, which leaves it exactly the same size and resolution as the Huawei P8, though the company is also launching a larger 5.5-inch Huawei P9 Plus. That too will be 1080p, but with added pressure-sensitive smarts, a bit like the 3D Touch feature found on the iPhone 6S.
Design
The Huawei P9 is a seriously good looking phone, with an aerospace-class aluminium shell and a slim 6.95mm thick build. The front has very small bezels at either side of the screen, while the back is mostly plain, with a fingerprint scanner in the middle and a ridge at the top in a different colour. The Huawei P9 is launching in haze gold, ceramic white, rose gold, prestige gold, titanium grey and mystic silver colour schemes. Though it may not come in all of those colours in all countries.
Power
The Huawei P9 should be pretty powerful too, as it has an octa-core Kirin 955 processor, with four cores clocked at 2.5GHz and the other four running at 1.8GHz. It has just 3GB of RAM, which is slightly lower than many flagship rivals, but the Huawei P9 Plus ups that to 4GB.
Camera
The camera is the Huawei P9’s most exciting feature, as it has a dual-camera on the back. There's a standard 12MP lens and another monochrome 12MP lens. The phone can use both to take a picture, which allows it to vastly improve the contrast and the amount of light taken in, making it strong in low-light situations. Or it can use just the monochrome lens for true black and white shots.
There's also an 8MP front-facing camera, which is a fairly high spec for a selfie cam.
Features
Other than a stylish build and a dual-lens camera the main feature of the Huawei P9 is its fingerprint scanner, which is on the back of the phone. It also supports USB Type-C, has 32GB of built in storage, a 3000 mAh battery, a microSD card slot and runs Android Marshmallow.
